AUDITIONS
Auditions for I Have Been Here Before by J. B. Priestley – performing Oct 17 – Nov 2, 2025
We are holding open, non-Equity, auditions on Monday March 17 from 6.30 to 9.00 p.m. at The Kranzberg Black Box, 501 N. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63103 and will be using the sides below. Callbacks will be on Saturday March 22 between 10.00 and 1.00.
SYNOPSIS
In the 1930s, a group of people are thrown together by chance when they decide to stay at a remote Yorkshire inn. They discover that they are so interdependent that a decision taken by any one of them is likely to have a profound effect on the lives of the others. Have they lived through the experience before? Is there a chance to make different decisions this time? Along with An Inspector Calls, this is one of Priestley’s so called “Time Plays” each constructed around a particular concept of time.
ROLES & ACCENTS
We encourage actors of all identities and backgrounds to audition
Sam Shipley: The landlord. 60s. This role has been cast.
Sally Pratt: late 30s/early 40s. Widowed daughter of Sam. She has a rather loud tone and a northern accent. She’s the one that runs the inn and the strain of it sometimes shows.
Dr. Görtler: 60s. An exiled German professor. He speaks precisely with assurance and authority. His English is excellent with a slight German accent.
Oliver Farrant: Late 20s. Newly appointed head of a small private school. Good looking and can be charming but can also be a conceited intellectual at times.
Walter Ormund: Early 40s. A successful but stressed businessman. He alternates between the alert sharp command of the business owner and gloomy brooding.
Janet Ormund: Late 20s. Wife of Walter. She is struggling with her marriage to Walter due to his heavy workload and drinking.
The Ormunds and Oliver Farrant are more educated and speak using more “standard” English accents, sometimes called RP.
